Another 'Up the Wall, On the Floor' event! This time, Tektura, Material Lab, and Milliken handed the challenge to the 4th year Interior Architecture Students at Nottingham Trent University
40 students dreamed up new design concepts and interior schemes using our wallcoverings, along with carpet from Milliken and ceramic tiles from Material Lab. We then had the difficult task of whittling 40 down to a final 10, who joined us and our locally based architect and designer clients at the Tonic Bar in Nottingham in November. The Winners are:

1st prize : Linzi White, chose 'Fashion Design' The title of Linzi's design is Cine Couture' and her inspiration was Antonio Berardi, whose fashion designs are influenced by the movies from the 20's and 30's and the female form. She designed a Silent Movie Teatro with a lavish entrance and lounge combining the influences of lace and leather. As an example, one of Berardi's dresses with a central front panel inspired the central feature staircase - the 'Scala della Caratteristica' and the balconies were developed from the form of one of his corset designs. Linzi used leather effects in ceramic tiles, beaded and leather wallcovering, and digitally printed designs combined with tweed style carpeting to create her scheme. |

2nd Prize : Elise Rowland : chose 'Time Zone' Elise chose the Ice Age as her Time Zone, as this could be both hard and soft, tough, yet delicate - masculine in some ways and feminine in others. She came up with the idea of creating a Brandspace for the perfume brand 'Davidoff Cool Water' as the male and female scents contrast one another yet both embody the language of the brand. Her Brandspace design is a tactile, sensory space where people can experience the qualities of the male and female scents in contrasting ways. Geometric, male shapes and curved female forms are connected through the space through the use of 4 specially designed carpet tiles from Milliken Carpets which are configured to blend one experience into another. Wallcovering by Tektura is used in both 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional ways, and specially designed water-jet cut tiles from Material Lab tiles add to the density and richness of the experience. Unlike a shop, the space is simply designed for people to walk through, try the scents and take in the brand aiming to create a lasting and memorable experience which they will associate with the brand in the future. |

3rd prize to Andy Goodwin, chose 'Futuristic'. Andy designed the 'Green Love Gallery', which provides a modular exhibition space to promote sustainability, while displaying Tektura, Milliken and Material Lab products and their manufacturing processes. The Gallery is designed to be used at events and in public spaces to promote the green message to the public as well as industry. The modular capabilities of the gallery mean it can fill a variety of footprints and be suitable for a number of uses. Andy took his inspiration from exhibition design and street artists such as Banksy. |
