Three respectable manufacturers. 14 design students. 120 architects and designers. And Mix Magazine... in Harvey Nicks? Sounds like Pimms o’cloc…erm, sorry about that, we were getting a little carried away there!

What’s this all about then? Well, the good folk at Milliken, H&R Johnson and Tektura recently set a design challenge.

They asked 14 budding second year designers from the Surface Design department at Huddersfield University to create completely new concepts for flooring, wallcovering and ceramic tiles.

With ideas inspired by sustainability, fashion, graffiti, pop art, and even the French Revolution, each design had to be completely different, inspiring, and above all commercially viable.

And to finish off, the dynamic trio only hired out Harvey Nichols in Leeds, invite 120 architects and designers to an evening entitled Up the Wall. On the Floor. Guests were asked to view the work, and subsequently, pick a winner from the fantastic designs.
