Frances Bleksley - BA (Hons) Printed Textile Design, Birmingham City University. Frances has created a new wallcovering called 'Spirit', named after one of Global Color Research - Mix Publication's four major trends for 2011. Spirit was shown for the first time at the Interiors Show in Birmingham, along with other trends Whisper, Risk, and Genteel - each brought to life in dramatic and innovative displays, and designed and built by Frances and 120 fellow students at BCU. Frances's wallcovering was voted the winning design.

She told us "Spirit is a trend for Spring and Summer, a time when everything is so alive and wild: I sought inspiration from Cornwall, rolling hills, gypsy camps, newborn lambs, wild flowers and all the memories of my childhood there. My design is compiled from intricate sketches, collapsed den structures, and big bold shapes taken from my research into celtic architecture. Texture also played a huge role for me: I used dyed woollen swatches and heavy tent-like cotton to create the background, taking me back to my scout days, and that morning smell of damp canvas and wet grass"

Tektura took each student's wallcovering concept, and digitally printed the designs onto metallic, weaves, glossy and irridescent textures. By combining print, colour and texture in this way, unique effects are created. Spirit is printed onto our Canvas textured wallcovering.
